Here Let Them Abide Douglas Gillette: 5-16-15

Standing, feet well-planted on this rough limen,
fronting the night full-on,

I hold the door all the way open, brace it with my
left elbow and forearm

against the outside wall. Beyond the spill of light
from illumination back behind me,

an infinite blackness motionlessly displays. I wait,
hopeful, expectantly

for all of them to arrive. For I’ve called, on Good
Authority, all living things

in from outer darkness. God, make me sufficiently
great-hearted to take them in,

and here let them abide.
